Default '92 Marathon - Stops Accelerating when Fully Depressed

So, my 36v '92 Marathon, that I just got in December, runs normal and cruises at about 16 MPH with no issues. But you have to have the pedal just shy of fully depressed. If you floor it, it doesn't move or stops accelerating if you're already in motion.

It was a golf course cart and I'm not sure if there might be a governor to deter full-on acceleration on the greens or an actual issue with the pedal mechanism.

Before I start fumbling with it, I was hoping I could get some good news ("remove the governor" :)

The throttle is going past "max allowable range" at full throttle. If you unplug pins 2 & 3 at the controller, you should be able to ohm the wires out and get near 0 at rest, and near 5000 at full throttle. You will find yours goes way higher than 5000 at full throttle. It can be adjusted, and usually fixed with no new parts.

That's good news.

Do you think that that is something that went bad or something done on purpose (like a screw adjusted so that hard acceleration fails)?

Crud may have built between the potentiometer's wiper and resistive surface, or the lever arm the turns the shaft may have slipped, or the linkage rods may have stretched, or any of several other things that happen to mechanical stuff over time and usage. Probable failure from normal age and use rather than foul play.

Troubleshooting and adjusting throttle starts on page N-8 of attachment.

There’s an adjustable rod between the pedal linkage and the potentiometer on those, which makes adjustment common and easy. Likely the rod needs to be shortened a bit.
