2103 RXV - Consequences of over-filling rear end?
Will over-filling the rear end on my 2103 RXV result in damage, or just a mess?
I am at the 5 year mark (last serviced in 2105). Time to change fluid again. No top-ups (no way to check level on an RXV). In 2015, I used 24 oz. fluid plus 3 oz. limited slip fluid = 1oz. overfill. Everything got quiet. Over 5 years, things have become noisy again. No visible leaks, but a little mess (dirt buildup on the diff) indicating a slight leak some where. Removed plug; drained pan; pulled pan, checked the volume of remaining fluid. 19 oz removed. So, a loss of about 1.4 oz. per year. I want to put about 32 oz. fluid + 4 oz limited slip in there. Anyone know of a problem with overfilling? Looking at the axle tube diameter and the apparent total space, 36 oz. (10 over) appears nowhere near enough to come out the vent. Will overfilling throw gear oil up someplace it should not go? EDIT - I drive my cart on the street quite a bit. I am adding Hypalon pads to my axle mounts to see if they will reduce audible axle/gear noise. I don't like the metal-to-metal contact. I will report results.
