Wheel offset - what does that mean???
I have a 2000.5 DS club car with stock 8" rims/tires.
I want to upgrade the wheel/tires to 10" or 12" rims (low profile street tires). No lift. I'm looking at assemblies stating that no-lift is required for these: 10" - 205x50x10 tires with -25mm of offset 12" - 225x35x12 tires with -40mm of offset Questions: 1. What does "offset" mean - I see both positive and negative offset? 2. Will the 225 wide tires be too wide for my cart - maybe rub on turns? |

Re: Wheel offset - what does that mean???
that means the area where the holes are to bolt up are either set back in the wheel or pulled forward in the wheel......the bolt pattren is not in the center of the wheel................................

Re: Wheel offset - what does that mean???
So, does a negative (minus) offset mean the wheel/tire is closer to the inside wheel well? Thus, a higher potential of rubbing on a hard turn?

Re: Wheel offset - what does that mean???
Hi guys. Newby! Shadowman's explanation is perfect. I can completely understand a positive or negative offset with a number. Ex. A positive 5 offset would mean the wheel would set out from the original position 5" away from the cart. But many state the offset with a number like 2+5 or 4+3. Are the two digits added together to make 7" with + meaning positive offset? Please explain the use of the two numbers. Thanks. lateryder

Re: Wheel offset - what does that mean???
The first number is the measurement (in inches) from the inside lip of the rim, to the center of the rim where the hub and rim meet. The 2nd number is the measurement (in inches) from the hub to the outside lip of the rim. For example: A wheel with a 4+3 offset will measure 4" from the inside lip to the center of the rim where the hub and rim meet, and then it will measure 3" from the hub to the outside lip. The two numbers added together will total the width of the rim (7").

Re: Wheel offset - what does that mean???
Thanks FlintRock. That's total clarification. I appreciate it. I was about to buy a set of wheels and tires for my club car and the guy from Imaginative Mfg. said the ideal offset would be 2 plus 5. Since we were talking about 4 or 6 ply 22x11x10 tires, I now know he was talking about 10" dia. 7" wide wheels. Your information really helps.
By the way, I am planning to convert my club car to 4wd with a two speed transaxle using an upgrade kit from Imaginative Mfg. Does anyone have information pro or con for this project. |
