Re: Tips/mods to extend drive time
I have 8x6v 2of them in bagwell. Maybe 3hrs pedal time a day- max. 40 miles seems real good, Ive been thinking of GPS monitor for giggles. Why do you require so much?

Re: Tips/mods to extend drive time
the place we stay is big, 15 x 5 miles.
I was toying with the idea of a solar roof, but I know they are not too quick to charge. |

Re: Tips/mods to extend drive time
Ive thought of solar, but batteries, algorythms, charge controllers, and whatnot- seems to me to be counter productive without a LOT of cash laid out. If money isnt an issue though, it could increase range by quite a bit. I worry about battery life on such a system...
Its easy for me to stick to what is proven. |

Re: Tips/mods to extend drive time
An AC system is more efficient than DC. It should increase your run time, but its not a cheap conversion.

Re: Tips/mods to extend drive time
You're correct that they are not quick to charge but I can guarantee you one thing. They'll improve the condition of your batteries for sure. We did an experiment at work with a solar roof. We took a Precedent with 4 year old 12 volt batteries in it and charged - discharged it three times. 58, 60, 57 minutes.... Then installed a solar roof on it and never charged it once. We brought it back in the shop three months later and discharged it, 92 minutes. I was amazed.

Re: Tips/mods to extend drive time
David,
Did you by chance do a writeup on this? (I'm too tired / lazy right now to do a search ) I'm real interested in the concept since my only roof is basically trashed and will be building my own roof struts and repairing the plastic top or fabricating a new top anyway so it wouldn't be hard to add the extra supports / mounting points for a solar panel if I decided to give it a try. Thanks, -Scott H. |
