Default '06 EZGO PDS slow in forward

Hi everyone. Got a problem with my 06 PDS that's new to me and I'm not sure what component to test or what to look for. When I step on the pedal to go forward the cart moves slow, reverse works fine. The interesting thing is when i go back to forward it works properly. Stop the cart and try to go forward again and it moves slow. go in reverse a few feet then go forward and it runs fine. you have to go in reverse every time first to get the cart to run properly in forward. I've found some similar threads, but none where going in reverse makes forward work properly.

As always, I"m sure someone has the knowledge to diagnose this problem and any help is much appreciated.

Put the cart in diagnostic mode and see what fault code it gives.

turn cart off and on
switch from forward to reverse 5 times
the cart will beep codes
first code is 1 thru 4 indicating which speed chip is installed
second comes any fault codes.

Cycle the run/tow switch to leave diagnostic mode

I put it in the diagnostic mode as described and got nothing, no beeps at all. I tried it several times, still nothing.

Here's a good one: I got on the cart to put it in the garage, inadvertently forgot to turn on the key and the cart performed normally. Turned the key to the on position and it acted up as before. What does that mean? New key switch needed?

I am going to try that, I think I may even have a used one. Seems like there may be a short somewhere, too.

I removed the switch from the cart and to my surprise the cart will run even with the switch removed. Where do I go from here?

Check for voltage at J1 Pin-8 with key off (or keyswitch disconnected).

Battery pack voltage on that pin tells the controller the key is ON.
If there is no voltage on Pin-8 and the controller will energize the solenoid, the controller is very likely bad.

Before I saw JohnnieB's reply, I decided to test the solenoid as I thought it might be stuck closed. I disconnected the negative battery cable, removed the controller cover, and disconnected the wires from the solenoid. While my test showed the solenoid to be good, after I put everything back together, the cart runs normally again! I don't think I "repaired" anything but maybe the system was rebooted. Whatever, I hope the "repair" holds up. Thanks to all those who responded, as always this community's help is highly appreciated.
