On these gas golf carts the solenoid stays engaged the entire time the cart is running to support the charging function of the starter generator.
The original White Rodgers solenoid says it is "continuous duty" just as the Oreilly solenoid does. Is it an issue of inferior parts inside the Oreilly solenoid or is there something larger I am missing?

I typically try and stick with OEM parts but in this case I was in a hurry to test a new solenoid and thats all I could find locally in a pinch. I don't mind buying a White Rodgers solenoid again once the cart is back up and running if necessary.

Unfortunately there are differences in even "continuous duty" solenoids. Most Cart specific ones will have silver or brass contacts inside - for the best possible transmission of power. The continuous duty most auto parts stores sell are for a winch, snow plow, or something similar. They will run moderate amperage for longer than the automotive starter solenoids (say 45-90 seconds at a time) but still not the same kind of "continuous" (often more than 30 minutes at a time) that a cart can put it through. There is a quality difference in the materials used inside.
