Default club car 48 volt jerks

I have a 2003 club car DS with 48 volt system. The car at first would go about 10 feet then go to half speed. Batteries are fine with 8.5 volts per battery. I put on a new speed sensor and now the car goes fine for about 1/4 mile then cuts to half speed and sometimes suddenly goes back to full speed. Any ideas?

Where did you buy the speed sensor? The cheap eBay ones are notorious for problems such as this. You have the symptoms of a bad speed sensor, but it's intermittent. If you paid 30 or 40 dollars for the sensor with a configuration of Red, Black, and Blue wires you've got a Chinese clone sensor. They're "junk" for lack of better description. The OEM components are the only way to go for speed sensors and MCORs.
