Default Controller upgrade

My dad has a 36 volt EZ-Go with a tow haul switch. Controller fryed and he wants to up grade to a 500 amp controller. I dont really know anything about the shunt wound motors and how going up in amps affects them. Anybody have any experience with the this upgrade?

Thanks

We've assisted many BGWers with this. First, we need to know what other upgrades you have done. You will need to upgrade to 4 gauge cables, no matter what conttroller you get. I would suggest the AllTrax 400 amp. You may also want to upgrade to a HD solenoid, but not necessary to do asap with a 400 amp controller. If you go 500, then a soleniod is a must.

As far a performance upgrades its a stock 36 volt cart. They just put brand new batteries in it. It has a back seat kit on it other than that its stock. From what you have said it sounds like a 400 amp is the best route to take.

At our shop - we replace mainly with the 400 amp on a PDS cart, PLUS the 4 gauge cables

Thanks Mike. I'll put 4 gauge cables on it and go with the 400 amp controller.

Dawg, you''ll like the 400 amp controller. I put the DCX400 on my cart with 4ga cables and it worked great. Also have one that I put the DCX500 and D&D motor on and it works great. The 400 was still stock and the 500 had a lift and 22" tires.
