If your comp. is that good you can rule out the seals and the rings.

Maybe the ignition-system has gone south and the timing is off enough that it only runs in reverse(If you advance the timing for forward, its' retarded for reverse, but if it goes the other way to the advanced-side,it will be dead in forward.)Does the starter turn it over in reverse? If no,then start checking wiring, starter, etc. The F/R switches can get miserable, mine has to be coaxed occasionally(rock the lever a little).Or the contacts are fryed(you can disassemble the switch, file them smooth and reassemble a touch tighter than it was, this works good, done quite a few of them.If nothing still, get a wiring diagram, and do some tests to see if you are getting power to the starter. You could also reverse the F/R wiring to test it(it will change Forward and Reverse direction of the lever).Hope this helps.

Take a look at your F/R switch. On the driver side (under the driver's seat) is small wire attached to a microswitch. If you remove this wire or it is accidentally detached (it could be pulled out easily), the cart will not move forward.

Another thought, you said you didn't finish the HEI conversion? If it isn't mounted to a piece of Aluminum with dielectric grease under it,it will fry the module from overheating. This causes erratic spark/timing or none at all.

switched the f/r switch and it ran half *** foward and good in reverse still
so it's the switch or timing or something else

If you have reversed it,and the starter seems ok,i would go thru your ignition wiring, and make sure the module is wired right. You may have cooked it,or it was just defective.Running good in one direction eliminates the coil, wire and plug.I'm leaning hard towards the Module.Hope this helps.
