Default 8v to 12v battery conversion.

I have a 1998 48v ds club car and want to switch to 12v batteries. I can get a great deal on 12v batteries. I read the sticky about 12v to 8v but that was a slightly different cart. I know that I will lose some power, but it is only used in a small campground. If you have any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks for looking.

Probably isn't but this could be a first. What's your great deal? Usually get what you pay for. You likely won't get as much run time or the longevity in the 12v batteries. But if it's truly a great deal, would probably be worth it. I use mine at a campground and the runtime is plenty on a daily basis - and that's at a pretty big campground that my son makes endless loops around on a daily/nightly basis. I just got new batts so I'm hoping for even better performance, at least for a while. I have no idea how such a switch might impact the other components of your cart or if something else needs to be replaced.

For your purposes shud not be an issue. We have 4 carts at the golf club 97-2000 DS models who's owners went the same way and they still do 18 holes after 3 years.

Thanks for your input. My son works at O'Reilly and he can get a good discount. They have AC Delco and Super Start batteries. I will post model and price after I go up there. Might be a couple of days though. I just found out that its his weekend is today and tomorrow.

Make Double sure that the 12V batteries are designed for Golf Carts.

Agreed. Do NOT install automotive 12v starting batteries in a golf cart, you will NOT be happy with the performance.

I did a double take when I first looked at this post...

They look like cranking batteries to me. If so, this would be a mistake, even if they cost you next to nothing. You need deep cycle golf cart batteries. I bought a cart with new deep cycle marine batteries (not knowing better at the time) and they lasted less than a year. These not being deep cycle at all will last no time in my opinion.

if it lists "Cold Cranking Amps", it is the wrong kind of battery, it should list "AMP hours rate".
