So this might not be the place for this question, but...

This cart came with an old school ez-go charger, with a timer. Sure enough, it didn't seem to care what kind of charge was on the batteries, it just fired off when I turned the timer.

This seems like it could cook the batteries. What's the deal?

That's one of those chargers that will charge anything no matter the SOC. Just make sure the plates are covered in all cells and let it charge and see if they come up any. How old are the batts?

When you plug that thing in and turn the timer to start WITHOUT the DC end plugged into the cart, does the charger hum? If so the relay's been bypassed and it ain't gonna kick off until it times out at 12 hours. This will indeed overcook a good battery pack.

If it has to be plugged into the cart before you can start it up, then the relay is working and you probably shouldn't worry, those old things don't look for much voltage at all to start charging. Cutoff voltage should be somewhere in the 44-46 volt range.

Sweet. Yeah, I let it run for about an hour. It brought the pack up enough that "my" CC charger recognized it, and kicked off.

I'm going to let it (the old charger) run for a bit more, and let my CC charger bring it up.

Battery age is unknown. The PO said it's been sitting in a shed for 4-5 years. So, I don't have a lot of confidence. The strange thing is, all the water levels look perfect. There is a bit of bulging on a couple of the batteries. Maybe froze... I dunno.

It's just kind of cool that this cart doesn't look "worked" on or fixed... It's all nice and clean.

Alright! Today I got a new set of Trojan T-105's in it. They read 38v before I even put the charger on it.

I charged it for a while and took it for a quick 2 mile ride. Put it back on the charger, it dropped to 5amps pretty quick.

What's the best break-in procedure for a new pack?
