I have replaced one before, but only if the batteries are less than a year old or the customer is a real cheap sob. US Battery makes a really good battery that is as good or better than many other on the market. I install them exclusively unless someone is hellbent on having Trojans. But being that they have been, well to say the least, mistreated in their lifespan, I'd replace the set.

That is a strange blowout though. Usually just a post ejects or a small hole (about the size of a .45) is seen. I can only imagine what that was like with that much force. Did you put it in tow to push it out of the way? Just pushing one in run can blow a battery, I've seen it happen in less than 5 feet.

I did have it in tow to push it, good to know! I have a line on the U.S. Battery and was wondering about them, thanks!

Water levels were good on all batteries I checked them that morning.

Good to know about charging one good with 5 older ones, I was wondering if that would cause any charging issues.

I washed the whole area area real good with water, sprayed with baking soda and repeated a few times.

Looks like I need to put in some OT and get a new full set....

Thanks for the info guys, appreciated!

John

Wanted to know that myself!

Found a guy selling those U.S. Batteries for $126 each. They are comparable to Trojans in every way except price. I think I will give those a try and get 6 new ones.

Smart Man! Keep them charged and make sure all of your connections are nice and clean and tight (not over tight though)

Smile Re: Battery EXPLODED

You didn't indicate weather you watered and cleaned as part of trying to get the dead batteries back on line...if not that probably was the start of the issue...the mist common things are low water, shorted cells and loose connections. If by chance any of the other batteries are in the same condition it would be best to replace them all...in our area there our battery shops that sell a set of used batteries...that might be an option to save money. There is a chance that you damaged other electrical components but your going to have to have good batteries in order to figure that out. Be sure when your cleaning up the mess that you don't wet down other electrical components and damage them. Good luck.
