Default RXV motor brake

Had an RXV with curious run/won't run condition. Immediately replaced the motor brake because of my history with these carts. Cart runs correctly now, so that's good. Inspected the old brake and cannot find a single thing wrong with it. Can still read printed numbers on the brake lining surface, like it's never been used at all. I mean it looks pristine, other than some corrosion on the outside of the housing. These darn things just quit working correctly after five years. What's the deal with that???

The impedance of the coil that pulls in the brake changes over time from exposure to heat from the motor. It gets lower and lower over time, until it falls below the minimum impedance that will pass the powerup test. It starts getting intermittent as it gets on the very edge of passing test around 20 ohms, then fails solidly after it gets under 18 ohms.
