brake lights aren't completely working properly
when I brake, the rear (passenger) right is brighter the the (driver) left. But when I release the brake they all go out as normal.
When I turn the headlights on, without braking the back lights seem equally bright, but when I brake the back left goes out and back right gets bright When I turn the headlights off and hit the brakes the back left and right come on but the back right is brighter than the left. im really struggling to figure this out. seems like it might be an electronic type issue but idk.. |

Re: brake lights aren't completely working properly
Sounds like a ground problem to me.

Re: brake lights aren't completely working properly
the back tail light grounds were severely rusted, could this be the root? and ideas how I could check that without buying new tail lights?

I agree with buckmanmike. Start by cleaning up all your wire connections on the wires and were they ground wire connect to the light housing.

Re: brake lights aren't completely working properly
Not sure what you mean by "tail light grounds"? There should be no "grounds" on an electric cart. All electrical connections should go back to batteries (maybe through something, but always back to batteries). There is nothing "grounded to frame....right?

Your lights have a positive+ and negative-wire going to then that is what I am talking about checking. Clean up the rusted grounds on the lights that you mentioned and see if that helps.

Re: brake lights aren't completely working properly
nothing grounded to frame, when I take the taillights out and take them apart there is a metal piece inside with a wire that screws into the metal taillight holder. the piece that holds the light and the socket. if that makes since.. here's a picture of the wire im talking about circled in red

Re: brake lights aren't completely working properly
That is your tail light ground wire. You are on the right track now. Will probably have to remove the screw and nut and clean up all the rust on the wire connections and the light housing. That will give you a good ground there.
Sorry if I misled you on the grounding of lights on a golf cart. I know you should never ground any accessories to the frame of a cart. |
