92 EZ-GO 4 stroke back fires
Hello all,
Just purchased my first cart for the family camping trips. Got a 92 EZ Maraton, 2 cylinder 4 stroke. The only issue other than some steering slop is it back fires when I lift the throttle from crusing speed all the way. One loud pop! could the timing be off? how do I adjust it ? may a new belt?? Any help would be great!! Thanks for you input. |

Welcome to BGW firestop, Mine was doing that and the idle was set to high causing it to backfire and butterfly on carb was not closing all the way when letting of the gas, the valves may need adjusting also, Link Below

Sounds like when you first back off the throttle the carb. is sending too much fuel and its firing when the fuel gets to the HOT exhaust. Its a carb. problem. |

Re: 92 EZ-GO 4 stroke back fires
I'm with popatop on this one.... Not sayin the carb. doesnt have issues, I'm just sayin i have fixed many a backfire problem on the deceleration b/c of an improperly adjusted butterfly. It never fails that when you get a new cart the first thing to change is the governor which when moved will sometimes affect the linkage at the carb.. Without proper adjustment the buttlerfly will not close letting excess fuel and air get pulled into the cylinder and combust causing the pop. I would definitely check the throttle linkage for proper adjustment and check the valve lash also...

Re: 92 EZ-GO 4 stroke back fires
Thanks for the help guys. I Haven't messed with the gov and I dont think it has been touched. I did adjust the linkage and cable and made sure the buter fly is closing just before the micro switch cuts off. I think that fixed it. I still plan on adjusting the valves. Is the valve cover gasket reusable or should I get a new set before opining it?
Thx again all... |
