Default G16 oil light stays on, even with ignition off

I've got a 1996 G16A cart, the oil warning light came on last night as i was parking it. Turned the key off and took key out of ignition and light stays on. I checked the oil and it's half way in between Min & Max on dipstick. Any ideas on why light would stay on with switch off... Ground maybe or bad sensor???

If you look at the wiring diagram, you will see that bat + goes directly to the low oil lite bulb, then to the sensor switch, so ignition/accel. switches won't affect the oil lite operation. Your initial thoughts are correct, (if the oil is not low) the sensor switch could be bad, or a wire grounded. I would try topping the oil level up to full and go from there. Good luck - RAY

Thanks for the reply, This is my first summer with a cart and I don't have a service manual so I couldn't look at a diagram. Didn't know it was wired that way. Cart is at campground and didn't have any oil there with me. I had planned on picking some up today when i get off work and top up before troubleshooting. Thanks again

If you go to the "stickies", at the beginning of this section, you will find one that will direct you to wiring diagrams. You can go to that site and download and/or make a copy for yourself. Will make life a lot easier. Other "good" stuff also in those stickies - check em out. RAY
