1982 36v DS Speed Control issue?
Thank you for having such a wonderful forum. Been reading for a while, and finally decided I need some help. I recently acquired a 1982 DS 36v, and it has new Exide batteries and all wiring seems to be in good shape. I am a golf cart rookie.
The problem is when I turn the key on, if it is in forward or reverse, it will begin moving. I must keep the selector in neutral to stop the movement. From everything I have read, there are a few 2 terminal micro switches inside the speed controller, and it appears the master and "1st speed" are sticking on? Is there a way to access these or is the controller box sealed? I am having a hard time accessing the box, as the 2 mounting bolts are rusted, and of course, I have big hands to try and get in there. I see replacement controllers on the net. Should I just replace the whole thing? Money is an issue, as I am just a poor fireman. I would love to do the conversion to Scotty B's all electronic, but cannot afford it. Can I get inside there with some contact cleaner or wd-40? Are the micro switchs replaceable? Thank you so much in advance. Bob |

yes... micro switches are replaceable
inside of speed box i'd also check the solenoids , it sounds like one of the solenoids is stuck open |

Re: 1982 36v DS Speed Control issue?
I went ahead and bought the service manual, and just found the diagram you posted above. Are those micro switches 2 terminal or 3 terminal? In the service manual they look like 3, but I have read references in other places to 2 terminal?
Thank you so much. Now to look at the solenoids. Bob |

I think you can buy a kit that has the 5 switches and the plastic slider ( wears after 30 years)

And don't forget to put the slider back in correctly, lest you have a decelerator instead of an accelerator pedal.

Re: 1982 36v DS Speed Control issue?
I think crash test dummy hit a home run. I went out and ran the cart and it moved without touching the accelerator. Flipped the seat up and tapped on the master solenoid and it is working fine now! I ordered a replacement already and will change it out. Thank you!
