Default Z06 gets an SPM CONTROLLER!

So, my cart has had an intermittent drop-out issue for over a year. I was relegated to using a jumper wire with alligator clips to trigger the solenoid for most of this time. I inspected and tested all of the control circuits till my meter was blue. Couldn't find the problem until I inspected the OEM Molex four conductor connector and found three of the four conductors burned away. Repaired that item solved my solenoid issue, but the drop-outs continued. Months of frustration lead me to summon the help of the local cart mechanic. First time ever. He towed it away, and was back within the hour. He found that one of the spade terminals on my Alltrax AXE controller was loose/cracked internally. This explained the intermittent issues.

Contacted Scottyb at Carts Unlimited and he set me up with the new style SPM 400 amp controller. The rest was pretty straight forward work.

The old AXE controller will be sent to Alltrax for evaluation. If they can repair it I will convert my '85 Club Car DS to solid state using this controller and a few new parts from Carts Unlimited.

The SPM unit has stock programming and is working fine so far. It's a little slower to react to than the AXE was but perhaps that can be altered in the programming when I get to it. It also seems a touch faster overall but I have not verified this yet.

Peak & sustained amperage output is higher from the SPM than your old AXE control. You can increase throttle ramp (up) rate for a generally quicker pedal response. You can also customize the throttle torque curve to suit your racing needs. Glad to hear you are running trouble free after so long.

So this morning I take the cart over to the local mechanic to show him the new setup. We opened the seat and his eyes lit up! He had not heard of this unit yet. I told him this is what he will be installing in the future.....

Broken terminal inside the epoxy? How you managed that i will never know. Oh yeah, the epoxy "potting" pretty much makes the controller un-repairable. He has never heard of SPM? Working under a rock inside a cave?

CG, my guess is a cold solder joint on the number three terminal (white wire from ITS). Probably been that way since day one, just took four years to show up?

Happy to report the SPM plays nice with my custom wound Plum Quick motor too. After a five mile cruise motor was warm, but not hot at all.

You might want to wait a week before telling him we have a black president
Or showing him this:
