Annual Maintenance Checks and Services
What exactly happens at the annual maintenance that all the dealers want to do? Are these technical things, with technical tools, that require the dealer or can a reasonably handy person do it.
For reference I have a 2012 TXT PDS 48V. The cost doesn't seem excessive but always like to do things myself when I can since I have a vested interest in the outcome. I'm a newbie so this will be my first annual maintenance. |

Re: Annual Maintenance Checks and Services
Can be done by the "end user" (you, with diligent care, this is key). Check & adjust brakes/cables (usually adjusted in the wrong place by rookies, "rear only" brakes requires regular clean/adjust, imagine if your car had only rear brakes, its a rough life for them). Check all cables. Clean batteries & corrosion. Check batteries terminal tightness. Check battery water levels (YOU must also check between services, at bare minimum once monthly). Grease suspension/steering as applicable. Check for oil leaks (gas engine/rear axle). Check tires/pressure. Check lights/brake lamps/turn signals. Check alignment & tire wear. General inspection, like toasted spring bushings and the like. Check for other "abnormal stuff" like strange noises (we know whats normal, whats not, we drive them all day). The "full maintenance service" can be done by the owner if they choose, but its mainly aimed for the folks who want to "drive it & never think too much about it". Most people never even check their tire pressure (like they never ran over a thorn on the course, or a nail in their ever-growing community). A "once-a-year battery discharge test" should be done (per Yamaha). Their are also things on the list of factory-perscribed stuff, like diff-fluid change per the owners manual. If i forgot anything,, tack it up to "late night typing".
