New batteries
Putting new batteries and cables on. The new batteries didn't come with nuts. Is there a certain alloy nut to avoid or just any nut will work. Certain spray to use that's better then others? Do I run the batteries down then charge them or charge as soon as I install them? Any other advice?

Re: New batteries
I personally like and use heavy hex SS nuts. you can use pretty much any such as CRC Industries - Battery Terminal Protector.....but regardless of what kind you use/get, to keep from making a mess on your batteries, get yourself some "acid brushes" and then spray the protectant into a cup or something like that then use the acid brush to apply it on the terminals.
first off....CHARGE THEM UP FULLY prior to going for your first ride, as most batteries are NOT fully charged from the manufacture. second...as far as the batteries go....NEVER allow your batteries to go below 50% based on the SOC chart. AND always keep your cart charged up at all times......you go out for a short ride....and you get back....and you aren't going out for a while....PLUG IT IN. and although you didn't ask....check your batteries water levels at least every two weeks and add if required, use Demineralized Water ONLY. Re: New batteries
The watering advice is especially important for new batteries and batteries on their last leg. Don't get me wrong, you should always keep water in your batteries above the lead plates and below the fill tube, but you will be amazed how much water can boil out of these things when new. Also, you'll want to let your batteries sit for a bit before comparing their voltage to the State Of Charge (SOC) chart. You are supposed to let them sit 24 hours to be fully scientific about it, but 45 minutes to an hour is good enough for my purposes as most the voltage comes back early on. |

Re: New batteries
What do you mean Bronson? I charge them up as soon as I get them in. Let them sit an hour then check voltage?

Re: New batteries
The charger receptacle has a white a black and then a small white wire that comes out of it. Nothing was plugged into it. Is that ok?

Re: New batteries
This will answer your question on the charging Amps: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ging-amps.html
As to small wire coming from charging port, thats the reed switch. I have a few carts, one of them I bypassed the reed switch in the charging port, and the wire is still hooked up to the controller. Another one of them, the reed switch is bypassed at the controller so the small wire isn't hooked up to anything. |

Re: New batteries
Barbersham, once your batteries are installed, you'll need to let them charge untill the charger shuts off. The charger will probably go up to around 17 amps to begin with and will eventually drop down . It depends on how low the batteries are as to how long the charger stays at high amperage. Right when the charger cuts off you will see voltages around 45 or slightly higher. The pack will settle over the next 12 hrs. or so, to around 38.2. Don't discharge them less than 70%. Also check the water on a full charge and add distilled water to about 1/4 in. above the fins if necessary. Any higher and it will boil out during charging.
