Sam’s Club lead-acid 6v Battery vs their 6v AGM Gel Battery?
Hello Everyone,
I’ll soon be in need of a new set of batteries for my 48v 2002 TXT Lifted Shuttle. Where I’m from we don’t have much places with different types of batteries and to ship them here is ridiculous. Anyway my local Sam’s Club has two different choices one lead and one Gel. Price difference is about $20 per battery if I go with the gel. Question is would it be worth the $$$ to go Gel? Also if I do will it be a direct replacement (other than physical size) or will I need to modify anything electrically? Thanks 🤙🏽 |

Gel batteries should require a different charge algorithm so you'd need to make sure your charger is compatible.
Also want to check the Amp Hour capacity of both the lead acid vs gel. There may be other considerations, but I don't know them... |

Re: Sam’s Club lead-acid 6v Battery vs their 6v AGM Gel Battery?
The description " AGM Gel Battery" is actually a contradiction as AGM and Gel are 2 different types of battery construction.
AGM is Absorbent glass mat construction. These batteries charge and finish at lower rates than regular lead acid wet cel batteries. Read more about the AGM batteries here > http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/a..._glass_mat_agm Gel is a Gel filling of or added to a conventional lead plate battery. This gets confusing as the gel can simply be added to a regular battery but are even less tolerant of high charge current and high finish voltage. More info here > https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-u...-gel-batteries The main question when considering these batteries is A. Do you have access to the manufactures recommended charge rate and finish voltage (VPC) information B. Is your charger capable of charging at that recommendation. For most people the answer is no |

Sam's club website shows three 6V cart batteries and their specs. One AGM and two FLA. All will fit and are electrically compatible with your cart.
