The 22" tires are costing you about 20% of the cart's stock torque, so it is going to draw a lot of amps and will be slow going up hills. To turn those tall tires, you are going to need at least 4Ga cables, a heavy duty solenoid, a heavy duty F/R switch and a higher ampacity controller. Plus you may need to replace/upgrade the battery pack since it is dropping considerably with just a stock (275A) controller. |

Re: diagnostic test result
I would do the current (amperage) carrying capacity first, FNR, cables, solenoid, and batteries. Then you can do controller, and if needed, motor.
First decide what voltage you'll use. If you upgrade to 48 volt, make sure your solenoid will work at 36 and 48 volts, and you'll need a 48 volt charger. |

Re: diagnostic test result
If you look at my sig, you'll see what I did. I still have stock tires. 48 volts will speed you up pretty good, even with a stock motor. The extra amps will give you more hill climbing and pulling power, and will accomodate larger tires.
Go to cartsunlimited.net and they have a good explanation on how all this is related under the controller upgrade page. |

Re: diagnostic test result
If you're on a really tight budget, cables are probably in the worst condition, based only on age. Then I'd do the FNR, again based on age, and larger tires. Solenoid might melt on you, as I melted two on a fully stock 36 volt buggy with stock tires. You'll be pulling more amps than me, so do that with the above if budget allows. I have a back seat, so if you don't, or live in a flatter area, or drive less aggressively than me, your solenoid may hold up for now.

Re: diagnostic test result
I have heard different ideas on 4 way crimped vs silver soldered.
and whether or not shrink should be used. what are your thoughts? Also 2 or 4 guage? |
