what kind of speed to expect?
So I picked Uo a 97 series that has seen its better day. I'm in the process of rebuilding it with a Jakes long travel let with 14" rims and 23" tires. Spm 400 amp alltrax controller. 48v conversion. Scotty b's HD reversing contactor. Stock motor. What kind of speeds will I be looking at. If its gonna be low 20's I'm gonna go ahead and get a new motor as well.

Re: what kind of speed to expect?
not sure how similar the systems are but I have a 94 DS converted to 48 volts with alltrax 400 amp controller 14 inch rims tires are 19 inches tall (205/30 i think) and im seeing 24-27 flat ground. I'm pleased... But i think plum quick will get a call soon so I can add to uphill speed. I drop to around 18 on the big hills which isn't bad considering I still fly by all the other carts in the community. Good news to me.. no limiter on my golf cart. I've seen upwards 43 down hill and use the momentum to get back uphill most of the time.

Re: what kind of speed to expect?
A series cart on 48v with 23s is going to run out around 18-19 mph if all is well.
Sumner121 Not if but, when that motor explodes it will lock the rear axle at 40 mph. This is a seriously dangerous situation. |

Re: what kind of speed to expect?
Quote:
A stock golf cart with a series motor has a top speed from about 12 to 14 MPH on stock height tires (18"). If the top speed in stock form is 13 MPH, installing 23" tires would mathematically increase the speed to 16.6 MPH. If the battery pack was then increased from 36V to 48V, the motor's max RPM would theoretically increase by 33.3%, so the cart's top speed would increase to 22.2 MPH. Of course, there are many other factors involved, so the cart most likely will not reach the theoretical speed. |
