Motor Question

Hi all,
Do the electric cart motors have brushes, or are they brushless DC motors?
Also, what is the typical life span of a 48 volt model say ............normal type usage.

(Refering to my 96 DS 48 volt cart)

Yes the motors have brushes. A motor my neighbor and I recently took apart out of his 2001 48V controller cart had brushes that were pretty well worn out.

Most motors will last 20 years with out a brush change under normal use. They really last forever.

I suppose it would't hurt to inspect them. Do you know if it is a simple task to inspect them?
I know sometimes things are better left alone.

It is not that hard. you have to remove two screws and 4 bolts from the bottom of the motor. the hardest part is realigning the screws back into the guide ring around the bearing when putting it all back together.

it is my cart that oxford is talking about above (actually a 2000, but who is counting years) and with the new brushes in the motor i would say it picked up about 2 mph. i was surprised the brushes made that difference.
