Simple upgrade question
Recently went to larger tires on a 2004 txt. It's stock best I can tell except for 4g wires/new batteries and after a while it'll beep and shut down briefly. Let it chill for a minute and you can keep going. Question is, if I upgrade
to 2g wires, 400a controller, hd solenoid can I utilize stock motor? Not looking for a burner, just something to get us around dependably including hills and a backseat so up to 3-4 people. Or what about just wires and solenoid? |

Re: Simple upgrade question
It sounds like the controller may be overheating. Your upgrade is a good idea. Keep the stock motor for now. I’m assuming you have a PDS drive since it is beeping?

Re: Simple upgrade question
I just upgraded my PDS from 36v to 48v. I never had it overheat from 22" tires and 36v. I live in Houston and it is hot. Hills could be an issue though. I ran the 400a controller for the last 8 months with no issues. Plenty of pep and torque for me. I would agree that something is overheating and faulty. I would do cables, controllers, and solenoids. You can't go wrong building a solid cart on a good foundation.

What you purpose will solve your problem for a while if you keep it at 36v....but if you jump to 48v it will still take its toll on the motor after awhile....but you have time. |

Re: Simple upgrade question
Thanks for the info! We built an older marathon with high torque motor from d&d and 500a Curtis controller from bohlinger. This newer cart will likely be the same in the end. I just needed to know if those upgrades would get us by until we do get the high torque motor. Thanks again!

Re: Simple upgrade question
I had this exact same setup when i started the build on my cart. If you do not smell any burning smell and the carts just shuts down this is just your controller. I Altrax controller will definitely fix this. The new wires are a good idea since you will be following even more power to a new altrax controller.
A good way to test your wires is to simply grab them in the middle between each cell. if they are to hot to touch then they are being overworked and need upgraded. The solenoid is an absolute must if you are going to upgrade controllers. The OEM ones can barely handle the stock setup. Add more power and you will be burring them out left and right. When i was just starting my build i took the "week link" approach. Your entire cart will be limited by the week link and once you fix this you should be good to go. The problem is if you keep upgrading like i did the week like changed every time. I would suggest buying one size up of whatever part you are looking to buy. if you are looking at a 400a controller then go one size up at least. i made this mistake and ended up buying 3 controllers as my demands grew. |
