Default 2003 EZ GO Something

Newby here......

I have what I think is a rebuilt 2003 EZ GO something. By reading the threads and by process of elimination, I think what I have is series type motor, 36V. I could not find any serial numbers or nameplates except one on the motor- which I could not read all of without pulling out the batteries. I did make out a date on the motor nameplate- hence that's how I know its a 2003. I do not have any run-tow switch to speak of under the seat. I do have 2 plastic control boxes that face one another under the seat on the passenger side. One looks real similar to the the ones shown on the wire diagrams posted up top for the DCS version. The other box is smaller and is mounted opposite the bigger box.

I have a 6" lift with 22" tires and am looking to gain more speed and torque. Top speed is my first priority for street use (I'm guessing I'm getting 11-13 mph tops), but torque is pretty poor as well and could be improved. I checked and I do have 6 guage cables now all the way through to the motor. Question is after reading as many posts as I could, do the same recommendations apply for upgrades for a series type motor (assuming that's what I have) which is in order of priority:
1. 4 gauge wires
2. New 400 A controller
3. If above not enough, then new motor and solenoid

Are the improvements more noticeable on a series or shunt motor or does it matter? Can anybody suggest what/where I can look to positively ID my cart so I know I'm ordering the right parts and looking at the right diagrams?

Here is what you need to start with:

1 - A GOOD set of batteries
2 - Complete 4 gauge cable set

Controller, motor and solenoid are not something a lifted series cart need to have, unless you choose to add them for additional performance.

Does your controller cover have a toggle switch on it? If it does, then tell us where your F/R switch is...

Controller box cover has no toggles or switches on the outside of it. I have not opened the cover up yet to see what is on the inside. The F/R is a lever with a handle behind your legs.

Are all 4 gauge wire kits the same for any 2003 36V EZ GO or do I need to know if its a PDS, DCS, TXT, ABC, XYZ, 123, etc. After reading some of the posts I thought I read where some carts need 18' of cable while others needed at least 25' Thanks!!

With no run/tow switch and the f/r switch on the seat, it sounds like you have a fleet. Just order the cable set for a 36v TXT and you're good to go. Please consider our the site sponsors when placing that order. (I'm not one of them, btw.)

Thanks for the help. After further reading I believe I do have a 36 V Fleet with a series motor. The cowling has Textron printed in the EZ GO emblem and the front is more rectangular rather than sloping down to a point. I never paid much attention to the cowling anyway, in that its a rebuilt- I assumed anyone could mount any wrapper over the frame.

By the way, has anyone out there with 36V Fleet and a series motor do these mods to it. Is the improvement slight, meets expectations, or exceeds expectations? Just trying to gauge what to expect before I open up my wallet.

You need a set for a series cart. I'm telling you - it is a MUST for a lifted electrc!

Not all cable sets are the same, either. Some are cheaply made, so buyer beware...
