2017 s4 express 48v
New to the forum, and new to the cart world. I recently purchased a 2017 express s4 48v. What kind of upgrades are required to get more speed and torque? As stated I'm new to the cart world, but and pretty mechanically inclined. Any help much appreciated.

Depends on what controller and motor is in it. If it has the txt drive train with the 1206 controller it can be turned up a little bit. If it is the 1268 not much can be done other than a new motor and controller.

Re: 2017 s4 express 48v
How do we figure out which controller we have. I'm thinking it lives in the box where the Tow/Run switch is?
I had a guy come out with a CURTIS handheld and a passkey. The CURTIS allowed him to bump me up from 12 to 14mph, and with 23" tires that gets me about 16-17mph. I find it hard to believe this cart cant go faster than that. When he used the Passkey, it beeped 3 times but there was no change to speed. I wonder if it is due to the size of the tires or something.. |

Re: 2017 s4 express 48v
You have to use the pass key then turn up the speed. Select the highest profile and then bump the speed to 19.5

Re: 2017 s4 express 48v
So it looks like that's exactly what he tried and the passkey didn't unlock it for some reason. He thinks its something to do with this particular model (express s4) even though it uses the TXT motor/controller

Re: 2017 s4 express 48v
Well I looked it up and 3 beeps is supposed to mean successful. Did he look at what the freedom mode parameter was set to after he did it? Once it says enabled he still has to change to the highest profile and set that profile speed to 19.5

Re: 2017 s4 express 48v
I had a dealer come out today to replace the batteries today. He hooked up his curtis to a different port, and said that the "freedom mode" was set to the wrong classification. He changed it from "4" to "5" and now it goes 20-21mph with 23" tires. This is plenty fast for me I'm happy. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this helps others.
