I knew the pistons were in unison, but I had always thought that when the #1 piston is on the compression stroke, the #2 is on exhaust, then #1 power, #2 intake, #1 exhause, #2 compression, #1 intake, #2 power............... etc.

Or is that what you were talking about?

And yes, they are very smooth engines, they have that distinct OHC sound too. Just a little bit like one of those Chrysler/Jeep 4.0 I6s.

OK, makes sense now.

So if power were measured at the crank, it would actually be like a 2-cycle since it is getting 4.5hp on each stroke.

I have another question while you're here, Jon.

Is it ok to drill the air box on the back side (so air still goes through the filter)? This guy is driving me crazy with his performance "needs."

I might just set it where it will run like hell at the MOST I can do with what he has and then tell him "Ok man, that is all you've got. Now you're going to have to start dishing out some cash for the rest of the potential."

Sure, its exactly like a 2 stroke, only different.
I would have to look at an air box again, i'm thinking you don't want to do that on the back side. I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know. What year did you say this cart is?

1995 Medalist. I was thinking of taking the smaller intake assembly off the bottom, or running a large hose to somewhere where it draws cold, fresh air instead of the engine compartment.

Well, the EZGO today was the highlight of my day! Put a temporary cover over the air box for him (he had been running it with NONE, and if you know EZGO intakes, you know that it is sucking dirt straight into the carburetor). I took the carburetor off and cleaned it up, and put it back nice and clean and changed his oil...and then came the dreaded governor adjustment. I did it, but I made him sign a clause that basically says "I ain't responsible from here on out if you **** the thing up" and it states all the risks and dangers of it.

The other EZGO went well too, got the new air box on, valves readjusted, and oil changed again along with a new drive belt and carburetor cleaning in an hour and 21 minutes. I had 3 VERY happy customers today, and 1 that was just an *******.

How big of a job is it to replace hubs on a 1991 2-stroker?

This guy says there is a "grinding" sound coming from the rear of the cart, and since the rear ends don't often go bad, I told him to get me 2 new hubs and I would stick them on for him...and change the 16-year-old rear end gear oil. I took the hub off this 97 TXT I have here just to see what all was involved, and it wasn't too bad on that, are they different on the older ones?

I think the 2strokes are the same as electric.
