2009 RXV will only move "with assistance"

Was driving along and cart started to slow down and need more throttle input to keep moving. After stopping, it would not go again. put it in tow and towed home. When turning cart on, normal solenoid sounds, and motor sounds/feels like it wants to go. Jacked up rear end and if the wheels are given a small nudge, while accelerator is pressed wheel spin normally, forward or reverse. It will do this with brake attached or removed from motor. Is there some kind of clutch between motor and differential that could be causing this? Was going to separate motor from differential and troubleshoot further. Any ideas appreciated.
