Default Motor upgrade for more speed but can't afford to lose power?

I have done some searching and seem to find mixed reviews.

I have a 92 Marathon 36v I pull my 2850lb race car with. I added the new FR switch, 500amp controller and HD noid, wires, and added 2, 6v batteries to make 48v
Stock tires and lift. Runs like 16mph

Cart really runs pretty good and pulls great. I am looking at motor upgrades like the PQ bandit for example to give the cart more speed WITHOUT sacrificing pulling power. It pulls fine but my girlfriend needs more speed to drive from the start of the 1/4 to the end of the shut down to pick me up. Its a 1/2 mile total and I seem to wait forever as I can see that little red cart making its way to me. It is way better now that its 48v but I really would like to see some more speed without taking away from its pulling power.

Pipe dream or possible?

Ken

You could chage the gearset or go with taller tires as well to help with the top speed, it shouldnt affect the pulling power with a 500 amp controller on flat ground. The motor would be your best bet though and the motor in addtion to a gearset and or tires, you could potentially get 30-35 mph out of the cart and have plenty of power to pull the car. JMHO though

Call Robby and talk to him. The Bandit isn't the motor to get. Get a torque motor but on 48 volts it should see 20MPH.

If you do get a PQ motor you may have to reprogram that controller depending upon how it is set up now. Don't over look this step

Basically you are asking for the best of both worlds... The series cart makes more torque than speed. Any increase in speed from tire or gear changes will have to be traded off with torque loss. I'm sure a racer understands that.

D&D also makes some good torque motors. We have had good luck with them in the Ezgos. The 601 motor has 8.5 hp and will get you 21mph in that cart with your setup.

I don't know but if u already have a altrax controller and it's programable then it's nothing to do. If you get the series motor built right for the application it will be used for it should be fine.
Some on here think the bandit is the only motor PQ does.
Robby can build u a motor for the exact purpose of your cart.
The bandit is a nice rebuilt stock motor with a little tweeking nothing that is going to out pull are out run a built all out performance motor.
But as most people know if you build a motor for speed it means you loose the torque. Robby and can build you a happy medium of the 2.

PS
If you want to wake that 48 volt motor up go to 60 volts! Just a thought.

Is there a voltage limit? What do you shorten the life of in the cart?

Yes there is and 60 I would say is the limit for a 48 volt motor to have it last.

Chevy ran his 36 bandit for awhile on 72 volts but back in March at the CAW ride he smoked it.

Robby at PQ could help with questions better than I but I'm sure the 48 volt motor would handle 60 just fine.
