Default governor Max?

Hey Guys,

I have a 2003 TXT. Do you know what the max rpms I can turn with the rear end governor hooked up? Thanks

You can turn the governed up to the point the RPM limiter kicks in, but that is not a good idea. The RPM limiter kicks in at 4600 RPM, but the problem comes from inside the differential. The govenor uses flyweights and at those RPMs they weights have been known to separate and jam within the gears.... When that happens you end up replacing the entire rear end.

So, the right answer is you can set the govenor to 4400 RPM as higher than that and the risk for the flyweights coming off increases significantly.

Thanks Bob. Do people with motors that run higher rpms crank the rear end governor higher? Like 5500 and up?

They can, but they just increase the risk of one of those flyweights ruining their day.... But they would need to bypass the RPM limiter to do that, and IIRC you can't bypass that. It's built into the igniter

Thanks for you quick response. I guess this is why most people who put in a bigger motor disable the rear end governor.
