Just for closure sake for anyone who searches this thread in the future....
After testing continuity and finding a continuity between A terminals and motor shell, I replaced motor with compatible motor I had from another build and tried all tests again. Diode remained cool. All systems appear normal now and cart runs in forward and reverse all be it with just a short test roll forward and back in the garage...
So it appears I had the rare motor fault and not the controller fault.

Glad you got it going. I just walked in from the shop and emailed you back. That motor I told you I had was not worth using.
