Default Which motor to choose for my controller

I have a 2001 pd plus. Last year my stock controller went out. I bought a replacement alltrax controller on ebay. The controller is a DCX and has a sticker on the top of it that says "for stock motor only" and also "pd plus only". After getting this hooked up I noticed the cart had a little more speed but after long runs I noticed a slight burning smell. After about 2 months the motor was completely burnt up. I am now shopping for new motors and I'd like some advice and direction on which motor is compatible with this controller. With the stock setup I had when I bought the cart I was only getting around 12mph. I'd like to get around 20mph. This cart is only used on the street but it his a very hilly region.

Any help and advice on this issue is greatly appreciated. This is kind of a starter project for me and a learning project. I'd really like to set a cart up for hunting on my farm but don't wanna dive into that until I feel more knowledgeable. So hopefully this project will help me get ready for that one.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I should probably have mentioned that it is a 300amp controller.

Thanks!

Have you made any changes from stock on your cart? Remember that anything you change also can and will put more load on whole operating system. You need to contact one of the Sponsors to this site with ( complete info on any changes ) you have made and they inturn can recommend the ( correct replacement parts ).

OLD MEC, Everything on the cart is stock other than the Alltrax DCX 300 amp controller. A guy at Alltrax told me to not go over a 4hp motor. Cart is only used on the street and at a golf course but the terrain is very hilly.

MotorMouth, I think that motor may have way too much HP for my controller. I'm extremely new to all of this and am an idiot with it right now so I may be wrong.

Very excited to learn though.

Thanks for the replies.

Hey, motormouth. That motor is a ridiculous suggestion for his controller. Are you gonna buy him a new motor and controller when those 2 units melt down together? I doubt it!

No it is not a ridiculous suggestion because I have that on mine and it did not melt together.

You have a 16+hp motor on a 300 amp controller?
