Solenoid jump:

Rear axle on stands, wheels off ground.
Key off, cart in neutral.
Remove one cable between batteries to break the pack circuit
Install a 6g jumper across the large terminals of the solenoid, leave precharge resisitor and other large cables in place, tighten everything down.
Reinstall the battery cable removed earlier.
Key on, cart to forward, step on gas. If motor now engages, the solenoid is proven bad and needs to be replaced.

Good post Gman I would point out that from the pics he needs some work on the connections in the way of cleaning.

Excessive heat may be caused by a poor connection. Corrosion will cause resistance in the circuit, and excessive heat.

Disconnect your battery circuit, then try removing and cleaning the posts and terminals at the solenoid. Check wires and lugs for corrosion and clean until they are shiny.

WOW! You guys are the best! After testing the solenoid, it runs fine (up on jackstands) So that was my problem...now the question is 1) where to buy one and 2) should I replace that resister on it since it got so hot? Thanks again for an excellent forum~couldn't have done it w/out you guys.
ps, anybody need a good, working controller since I didn't need it anyway?
Best~Doc

I would like to add something to this discussion
Sometimes the solenoid jumper test makes the cart run and then we say that the solenoid was bad but, in fact it may be that the solenoid activation circut has failed

Is there any way to test for that? What harm will occur if I leave the jumpers on the solenoid while I use the cart? Will anything burn up?
