Problem Brake Job?
Tackled brakes on my TXT tonight, Having problems getting hub back over new shoes! ran the adjuster all the way down on the bottom like your supposed to do but am still having problems getting hub over shoes! I know I have shoes on the right way (square at top tappered at bottom). I gave up tonight - to dark!! Will start back tomorrow morning.
Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong ? |

Re: Problem Brake Job?
Glad to hear it! Now, every 6 months pull those drums off and scuff those shoes up with some 80 grit. spray the inside of the drum down with some brake clean. Reassemble and adjust.

Re: Problem Brake Job?
hmmm ok I hadnt read that one yet! come to think of it The whole in the drum doesnt really match up with the adjustment wheel very well (assuming that is what the whole is for). isnt it kind of hard to adjust the brakes without the drum on it and still be able to get the drum back on ? Seems like there would be a great deal of trial and error getting them just right to be able to get the drum back on.

Re: Problem Brake Job?
Those are self adjusting brakes...... lmao....
seriously, the hole never lines up perfectly, but they can be adjusted with the drum on IF you really needed to. they will adjust themselves though if you drive in reverse and pump the brakes. Make sure when spraying Brake Clean, you are wearing googles as the chemical will burn like hades if you get it in your eyes....... |

Re: Problem Brake Job?
YEs the brakes are designed to be self adjusting. So are CC brakes. I rarely see a set that the performance can not be improved by cleaning and adjustment. The adjustment is done thru the hole after the drum is returned. If nothing else you will prevent your drums from being rusted to the axle by removing them and servicing the brakes once or twice a year.

Re: Problem Brake Job?
(Feeling pretty dumb.....) hahah ya I guess I didnt think about them being self adjusting. I did notice that under the cart the brake cable adjustment is just about as far out as you can go . does this mean i will need to replace the cables soon?
