Default Controller box

Finished my new controller box. I admit I got the idea from Rabbitreborn. I bent the box out of 18 guage aluminum. I like this method much more than just cutting the original black plastic box.Rabbit if you see this thread let me know how much of a gap you have on mounting the controller, right now I only have a 1/4 inch do I need to go to a 1/2 inch? Just want to make sure there is adequate air flow between the controller and the aluminum. Hopefullly my 2 gauge cable kit will be here next Wednesday and I can get that finished and that should be enough for a while. All I need now is a new torque motor and I'm set.

That looks Great!!! 2 Questions for you. How strong is the plate after being bent? In other words does the controller plate "wiggle"? And are the wires you are having made going to be able to make the bends needed to go from the solenoid to the controller?

The gap is optional. The reason mine has a gap is to allow removal of the parts without having to remove the box as a whole and to allow for the installation of the DC/DC reducer on the outside of the box. You could actually flush mount the controller and use the aluminum plate as an extra heatsink.

Still, fantastic job on the setup!

Thanks! I'm pretty please with it. There is very little play in the aluminum, maybe a 1/4 inch if you push on it. The cable is the flex kind and the jumper cable from controller to solenoid is 8 inches long so I'm hoping it will make that bend. Now,are you saying it's better to use the whole plate for a heat sink or stick with the air gap?

on the Altrax boxes I usually use the plate as a heatsink. On GE controllers the heatsink is thicker so I allow the air gap.
