Smile 48v Yamaha

I replaced a NEW battery b/c the battery cable to it burned a hole thru the old battery and I replaced the battery cable to it. Now, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN on a different but NEW battery, it was smoking and the battery cable burned a hole in this NEW battery. What could the problem? Possible small gauge battery cables on cart? I bought the cart used from a dealer, the batteries had to be changed, old, so I replaced all 8 batteries new, this is getting expensive, I have to buy another new battery. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hi Tbort, The most common causes for this problem are loose connections on the battery nuts, make sure they are all good and tight. Also if the cart is lifted you may want to upgrade to 4 gauge wiring instead of the stock 6 gauge. The dealer should also inform you that the battery manufacturer can repair a burnt battery terminal instead of having to replace the new battery. Hope this helps. ;)

Cables with poor connection inside the cable end will also do this.

There is only one reason for this failure: Bad connection at that battery that is damaged. IT can be a poor connection due to corrosion of the cable connector or loose nut or it can be a corroded clamp connection where the connector is attached to the cable. I would replace the cables and clean the connections. Be careful tightening the nuts because it is easy to over do it. The studs are in Lead which is very soft. Get the torque specs and use a torque wrench!

There is a pedal spring that needs replaced, it probably rusted through. The spring coils around the pivot point.

Part #39 is the spring (90508-40007-00), common for all models G1-G28 (not Drive 2007&newer), part # 40 (pivot bolt) will be removed. Easiest if you disconnect brake clevis first (#49).
