need brake shoe and drum part number 08 ydre
I am trying to find the part numbers for brake shoes and also brake drums, for a 2008 yamaha YDRE 48 volt cart. I am striking out.
Can anyone give me part numbers, oem or aftermarket, anything? Thank you |

Lolz, no brake shoes, no brake drums. Its got the internal wet brakes. If the brakes squeak, pass on that deal (unless you can get it for so low a price that a $1k axle job wont hurt). You can change the brake discs (frictions & reactions) for less than a whole axle if you do the work yourself, but if you pay someone the labor to disassemble the axle & repair VS the less labor of a axle swap, you only save about $100 (and dont get all new gears, all new bearings, all new everything, thats a foolish $100 saved in my opinion).

Re: need brake shoe and drum part number 08 ydre
CG, a lady called me today, and asked for a price for a brake job on a 2008 YDRE.
I try not to work on yamahas, i like club cars and ezgos. I'm glad i didn't give her a price, So no brake shoes or drums? I never heard of wet brakes. So her pedal is almost on the floor. What is involved with this ? I work on carts, so i can do whatever needs doing, but again, i am not familiar with yamahas at all. I tried googling but get no info? Any help or suggestions? Thanks |

Re: need brake shoe and drum part number 08 ydre
I would try adjusting the brake cable 'till the pedal has 1.75" free travel, there is no "autoadjuster", the cable need adjusted sometimes (this is the only adjustment on the whole brake system, its adjusted at the pedal). Heres a pic of the internals of a team axle (gas & electric brakes work the same), #s 24 & 26 are the "steels", 25 & 27 are the "frictions". Its very similar to a motorcycle "wet clutch". I can get you part numbers if you are still wanting to tackle that job.

Re: need brake shoe and drum part number 08 ydre
The brakes work very well, always brake evenly on both sides, never squeek, have a simple "single point adjustment", dont care if the cart is wet, AND, are very expensive to replace when worn out. No expensive special tools are needed to replace them, its a job to do it, thats all (remove & split transmission).

If adjusted and maintained properly should outlast the life of the cart

Re: need brake shoe and drum part number 08 ydre
Yep, Yamaha called them "lifetime brakes", it all depends what you consider the "lifetime" of a golf cart. Average users should easily get 10 years out of them. Super frequent users and "severe duty" users may get as little as 2 years out of them (stretch "burden carriers" used on steep hills every single day 365). The shortest lifespan i have seen a " typical golfer" get from them is 7 years.
