Re: New motor install - it smokes
Yep, if the original engine was using a lot of oil it will be built up in the original muffler. It will take a while for it to all burn out of it. Especially when just breaking the engine in. It should stop smoking eventually.

Re: New motor install - it smokes
Yes, very common. You have to run it hot for a bit to get it burnt out. Takes a while to get muffler hot enough. Usually to prove it, start it up and rev it and no smoke....drive around muffler get hot and ....it smokes. Though I have seen slight smoke from new engine that does not have any break in, but not much. Oil filled muffler will smoke more the hotter it gets until it runs out of oil.

Re: New motor install - it smokes
Great news! Oil change is up to you. Some say check the oil and if it starts to turn dark, change it. I would not change to synthetic for a while. Thank you for your helpfull posts in diagnossing your problem/concern

Re: New motor install - it smokes
Good deal.
I dunno, I usually run 2 to 5 gallons gas through a new small engine then change original oil. I put cheap/normal oil in for that however you should always run a zinc additive or off road oil with more zinc in a lawn engine. Even lawn oil has high zinc its good oil for these (or racing/offroad oils are good). Normal car oils they took lot of it out for emissions. Zinc is good for high pressure oiling, its better for splash lube engines and cam shafts. Its better but the epa does not like it. |

Doodah, How well do you like that motor and how difficult to install? I have a bad engine and am trying to decide which route I want to take. Thanks
