Default st 350 workhorse running rich

a buddy brought this too me after he put a new carb on it and threw the old one away.. it will run fine with the air filter and cover off of it.. just putting the cover on is enough to restrict the air and it chokes down.. I pulled the main jet out the numbers on it are 85 and 14.. is it possible 2 different carbs fit this machine and the wrong one is on it??? I wish he hadn't thrown his old one away so I could see what main jet was in it... its not running over or anything like that just act likes it is getting way too much fuel...

Not saying it's your problem but the first thing I would do is adjust the valves,
Robins are famous for being out of adjustment, 10 minute job and you will know.
