Cam timing
I had an EZGO twin cylinder brought to me for repair. I finally got it running on a lift but it is slow to rev and has no power on the ground. THere is gas blowing out of the carb while starting and while it is running. Motor runs good and even gets on the governor but will barely pull itself on the ground. Could cam timing be off.

Re: Cam timing
Could be a host of things!
There was a guy on here that the alignment hole on the cam gear had long gated throwing timing off. Pull the coil wire and turn engine over holding you hand over the carb. Does it push and pull on your hand?? Have you run a compression test? |

Re: Cam timing
It does push and pull on your hand. I can't locate my comp. tester. Guess I will get another one.

Re: Cam timing
If there is any lash at all on the round side of the cam the valve is closing and should not be letting compression into the intake. Its only .004

Adjusted valves and blow by is gone. Still just barely runs. Carb inspect. Is next.

Re: Cam timing
Compression went up 20 lbs to 110. Still won't rev.

Re: Cam timing
Pull the timing cover and check the timing marks, the first time I did a belt on a Ford 2300 had cam off one tooth and no power, sounded fine, just no power.

Re: Cam timing
Yes I need to check timing marks. I am putting that off because I will have to pull the engine or jack up the body to get the clutch off.
