Re: Cam timing
110 is really low for that engine. 150-160 is what they look for. I believe they say rebuild under 130.

Re: Cam timing
Before you go and pull the engine, Tell us what all you have done or checked. What is the history of the cart?
Is the gas fresh? what do the plugs look like? Replace. Strong spark, coil? Is it starving for fuel? have you checked the run jet? Is the fuel bowl full? plug wires? When checking the timing rotate engine forward and backward a few times and check each time. If the belt is worn or stretched timing can be on and off during rotation. Make sure the cam pulley is tight and the alignment hole is not long gated. If the lash was tight, the 295's and 350's are known for the intake valve to ware into the seat and creating that condition. 110lbs compression is not very good. Mine after a rebuild is 170 You may get it running better but, if it was mine I would be thinking its about time for a rebuild. They are only 9 HP when new. |

Re: Cam timing
Plugs are new
Gas was changed out Spark does not seem to be all that strong Carb has been taken apart and completely cleaned. float level seems fine Plug wires, I don't know I have no idea about the cart history, it belongs to a drag strip I did have the cart up and running up to the governor on the lift. Now it only revs to a low rpm and if you open the throttle much it dies. |

Re: Cam timing
I don't know, but it does sound like its running on the idle jet?
Did you soak the carb overnight ( apart ) and use compressed air to blow to blow thru all the passages? Those passages are very small and only takes a grain of sand to restrict or block the fuel. Had to do mine twice and it was a new (china) carb Have you tried spraying starting fluid in it while running? Did the cart sit for a long time before it would not run? What did the old plugs look like? black, oil or carbon? brown or white/gray? I still think if it was mine, I would just do a rebuild! You may get by with just rings, valves and valve seals. I went the whole way, rods, pistons, all bearings, polished crank, etc. for under $400 in parts now its new and no worries! |
