84 marathon starter generator
I have a 1984 marathon. The cart starts great in forward and hesitates in reverse, any suggestions as where to start? I also managed to break a terminal while cleaning all my connections trying to find a bad connection that maybe causing this where can I either get a generator or generator parts?

Re: 84 marathon starter generator
Are you saying that you spun a stud, and broke the wire loose on the inside?

Re: 84 marathon starter generator
The wire is not loose inside to my knowledge, I was able to semi attach it and get my forward function back but nothing permanent! I was having my reverse issue prior to this though.

Re: 84 marathon starter generator
It could be brushes, a weak battery, or a bad connection.
Mine had a reverse hesitation, and a slight whine before the starter would turn in reverse. I had corrosion inside of the positive cable where it couldn't be seen. Replaced it, and it spins much faster now with no hesitation. Put a meter on your battery lugs. Step on the pedal, and watch for a voltage drop. You should only lose about one volt. Now move the positive meter lead to the solenoid where the positive wire connects. Check for voltage drop there. |

Re: 84 marathon starter generator
OK. The cart is at my camper will not be there for a few days. I was just trying to do some homework before I get back to the cart. I may start looking into a generator/starter though. It appears by the time I get a set of brushes if needed and piece what I have back together after snapping the stud I will be half way there. Thank you so much for your help!

Re: 84 marathon starter generator
Dig through this manual. Lots of good information in there.

Re: 84 marathon starter generator
I had the same exact issue as "Cart Around". I also replaced the battery cable between the positive battery terminal and solenoid and it fixed the issue i was chasing for two seasons.
