The rings absolutely have a bevel. They are called keystone rings. What are the chances that you accidentally got both of them right?

The bevel on those rings are super hard to see (at least they were for my old eyes), I was convinced there was no bevel till I put one in upside down. I couldn't get it to compress flush with the piston by hand, So I knew something was wrong, I flipped it over and was fine.....

If you had a ring upside down or the gap not at the pin it would take an unusual amount of force to slide the cylinder on, and you'd probably break a ring re-assembling it.

Finally got the motor out and disassembled, the rings where on the pins where supposed to be. As far as the bevel of the ring both of them was put in where the smaller side of the ring was down towards the cylinder is this correct? Another way I can explain it is the flat part of the ring is facing down towards the housing.

That is how they were installed, guess I have to tear it apart further and reseal it, see if that helps

Found out the flywheel side seal had blown out, now to get a puller from work
