98 ezgo fuel problem
Won't fire. I pulled fuel filter on tank side expecting fuel to dump out but nothing. The filter never fills when pedal down. Has new fuel pump and solenoid . Previous owner said it ran slow and as the year went on it ran slower and slower til it wouldn't start. He said the compression was 60 on one cylinder and 0 on other when he first started riding it. I pulled the valve cover and everything was so tight it wouldn't move and it was super clean on top of head so I gapped it. I noticed the battery seems weak. Could this all be a bad battery?
The fuel tube was sitting at the bottom of the tank so I retrieved that and reconnected so it is getting fuel now. |

Re: 98 ezgo fuel problem
60 and 0 ?? You should check it yourself. You want to see 150 on both. Make sure your throttle is wide open when testing as it should be unless the small carb rod popped off

Re: 98 ezgo fuel problem
And tight valves will absolutely cause low or no compression. i've seen this more times than I can count. If they're too tight, then they aren't closing and sealing all the way to get compression. Set the clearance as it should (I believe it's .004 on all 4) and i'd bet your compression comes up significantly.

Re: 98 ezgo fuel problem
Thought about getting the 2 new valves and seats and replacing them myself but I have no idea what lapping is and it sounds important

Re: 98 ezgo fuel problem
Google it and you will see what it is and how it works. Here is a picture that will show what you need. Your valve seats should be ok.
