Default Battery for 1996 EZGO TXT

Hi all. I've got to replace my battery. This cart was given to me and it already had an aftermarket battery. I cannot determine if it's a 6v or 12v battery. Can anyone give me direction on what size battery to purchase? Thank you!

It’s a 12v battery. I’ve seen batteries in gas carts all the way from 230 CCA up to 800+. Hopefully someone will chime in here and recommend a size.

Thanks, I figured it probably was due to the 535 CCA on the one currently in there.

I think stock is a group 26G. I have a 27 in one of mine and a 31 in another. Had to modify the mount a little but works.

Thanks. I'll look at that. It doesn't need to be a deep cycle does it?

My Yamaha G9 had a deep cycle battery. Not necessary unless you forget your lights on, etc.

You can fit a Group 24, just have to modify the mounting plate. I just made my own, fit perfectly! I use a deep cycle marine starting AGM battery 930 CCA. This is my set up:

What did you use to make your battery tray?

There are two pieces of 3/4” plywood at the very bottom that are bolted through the original metal battery tray/floor with 4 stainless steel carriage bolts. I sealed the two plywood pieces with epoxy, then I made and bent flat stock 3” by 1/8” thick aluminum around the edges. Used 3.5” long deck screws to screw aluminum to the sides of the plywood. The actual seam of the aluminum is on the back side of the battery.

The aluminum sticks up 1” from the top of the plywood, forming a short battery retainer. Then I used car battery “J” bolts and hold down bracket to secure the battery in its custom tray.
