Default Differential question older marathon (1986)

Hey all,

Thanks for a great forum I have already learned a ton and was able to get my new to me '86 marathon up and running with the info here.

My question now is if anyone has a pic or can tell me if the level check plug on the diff should be high or low. I am concerned someone put the cover on upside down.

Thanks in advance.

There is only one way a cover will go on because the ring gear sticks out offset to one side.

Thanks guys. Mine is like the one in the picture. I would have thought the same that it can only go one one way but I had seen someone on here comment that someone likely had theirs on upside down.

In that case looks like I need a pinion seal. Thanks all!

I had to change the pinion seal last year on my 85, I assume they are the same. Here's the part# 472164
