Default G1 no spark in forward. Runs fine in reverse

Newbie to buggies here

So I just picked up this old g1 last night. I cleaned the fuel lines, carb, and pump and got it running today. It runs great in reverse but as soon as it’s switched into forward it looses spark. Still turns over fine just no spark. The ignition looks like it was replaced at some point. So far I haven’t found any broken wires but I’m going to look closer tomorrow. Wires coming from the stator look clean, tight, and all intact. If I hold the pedal down while I switch the key from off to forward it will spark 1 time then that’s it. So I guess my question is where should I start? Or does anybody know of a quick fix? I’m fine with ghetto lol. Thanks in advance.

The most common thing would be the ignition switch. You can trace the wires back to the ignitor and see if there are any broken or corroded wires. If the switch is good and the wires are all good, the only think left is the ignitor.

Get ya a wiring diagram and switch the F/R leads on the ignition switch. If you now go forward and not reverse then your switch is bad. If things stay the same then, like Slonomo said, your igniter is probably bad.
