Default G1 crank install help

Put my crank back in its case, tightening the 7 screws but it makes it hard to turn the crank by hand once the are tight, is this normal? Will it seat itself once running? Any input woukd be great. Thanks

Ok after a little messing around the crank is now spinning with the case screwed together. I used a rubber mallet and gave it tap. I has a tight spot in rotation but it rotates. Not sure if this is cause for concern or not.

It shouldn't be tight, should spin freely. I wouldn't run that engine until you sort that out. Did you freeze the crank and warm up the bearings before install? Did you lube the bearings up?

Yes froze crank and heated block with a heat gun. Bearings were on crank shaft and had been put on by a machine shop. The bearing and crank dropped into the clutch side very nice. The fan side needed a little tap with a hammer (i used a large socket and a rubber mallet). When tightening the 7 screws the crank was binding and would not move at all. I tapped it with a block and hammer and it popped loose. It spins quite freely but there is a bit of resistance for a quarter rotation. Its not tight but there is definitly a little bit more resistance. If you are looking at the fan side, it would be from about the 4 oclock to 6 oclock position that there is a little more resistance. I have lubed it up.

Another couple taps made it spin like new.

There you go! I was going to suggest that it's not in squarely. With the aluminum cases it's kinda sketchy getting out a hammer etc but sometimes you just have to do it. Glad you got it. Keep us posted!

My only concern now is the clearance between the crank and the housing. It appears centered looking at the rod but one side almost looks a hair closer than the other. No feeler gauge to check though.
