Default Inner helix removal g16 gas cart.

I need help removing the inner helix off the input shaft so I can replace the input shaft. I have already take the sheaves off and spring but the helix will not come off shaft and I can’t figure out how it comes off.

It normally just slides off when everything is clean and new.
Might need to soak it with penetrating oil for a bit and then try putting two chisels behind it one each side, tap them down a bit while lightly tapping on the shaft. make sure to put the nut back on flush with the end.
LIGHTLY on the shaft so you don't mushroom or knurl or bend the shaft.
It should come off.

Patience is your friend here!!!!

Ok I’ll keep trying. I’ll let it soak over night and see if that helps. I’ve had a hell of a time today with it I’m just hoping it’s not completely seized on shaft from over the years and require cutting it off. I did notice a c clip on backside just now (hidden by years of grime) does that have to come off for it to slide off?? Opposite side so I wouldn’t think it would but obviously I’ve had no luck.

No, that actually keeps it from rubbing on the housing. Maybe after a good overnight soaking if that doesn't do it you could use a little heat from a plumbers torch but be mindful of the seal in the housing behind it.

Ok, I appreciate all the help. I gave it a good soak of pb blaster and will see how it does come tomorrow.

It’s aluminum so you can heat it up slightly with a propane torch and that will help loosen the death grip of the corrosion.

I agree, that is probably the best course if the penetrating solvent doesn't work.

I'm surprised that the clip is still there. You need the spacer that replaces it. And new ramps if you're not replacing the helix...Use anti-seize.
